Shey Phoksundo National Park

Shey Phoksundo National Park, located in Dolpa, is the largest national park in Nepal and one of the most remote and pristine protected areas in the Himalayas. Established in 1984, the park covers high-altitude landscapes, deep valleys, alpine forests, and rugged mountains, including the famous Phoksundo Lake.

The park is rich in biodiversity, home to rare and endangered species such as snow leopards, Himalayan tahr, blue sheep, musk deer, and red pandas. It also supports diverse birdlife, including Himalayan monals and lammergeiers. The area is inhabited by culturally rich Tibetan and Dolpo communities, with monasteries and traditional villages adding to the park’s cultural significance.
